PJPII HS 2010-2011 Course Selection

Course Registration
2010-2011

For the 9th, 10th, and 11th graders it’s course selection time beginning March 8th and ending March 30th. Please take time to go over the book with your son/daughter and to choose the courses that will be of maximum benefit to them.

Pope John Paul II will have two Programs; the Accel/Honors Program and the Academic Program.   Students may be placed in either program for different courses.

For the 2010-2011 School Year all Seniors and Juniors are required to take 6 classes. The only exception to this will be the Vo-tech students.   Vo-Tech students take 4 at Pope John Paul II and 2 at Tech school. The minimum requirements are 24.0 credits for Graduation.

Each student will receive in school the Course Selection booklet on March 8.   An individualized Course Selection Sheet will be posted on Grade Connect. On this sheet are the required courses and electives recommended by the school in light of the student’s academic performance to date. For example, the science course reflects the program recommended by the school; the electives listed are based on the courses already taken by the student.

Parents should make sure that they are actively involved in this process. If the courses desired appear on Grade Connect no further permission from the school is required. The student then:
                        Prints out the form
                        Has parent(s) sign
Brings form to school and pays $125.00 re-registration fee in the Finance
Office
Brings form and receipt of payment to the Academic Affairs Office.

To register for a course not on Grade Connect, or take a course in a different Program, requires an Exception Form. These forms are available from the Academic Affairs Office, and require your signature as well as signature of the Department Chairperson.

Students who register after the deadline often lose opportunities to take elective courses, since in rostering for these courses priority is given to those who register on time.

New at Pope John Paul II are Cluster Electives. These one-quarter electives are designed to allow the student to explore courses in different areas. Not all Cluster Electives will run in 2010-2011; final decisions will be based on registration numbers and teacher availability. In the future some of these Cluster Electives will move to semester/year courses.

Please Note:
v     When selecting semester courses – you must select a course for both the First and Second Semester.
v     When selecting Cluster Electives you must select 4 courses.
v     Students completing this process by March 30th will be given preference to their selections.

The Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs makes final decisions on all roster changes.
